This isn't an easy subject to tackle - neither professionally (admitting that my profession isn't always great and facing the hurt that therapy can cause as well as addressing such a huge topic in a relatively short blog post (this is the sort of stuff that's filled lengthy books - I'll leave a book list at the end).

P.s. I'm dyslexic. For years it's prevented me from putting my writing out there and when I do, I've re-read my posts over and over to spot any mistakes and fretting about the mistakes I found and those I didn't. It's also prevented me from self-publishing the many books I've written because I can't afford a proof-reader. I also considered asking people reading my stuff to send me corrections if they spotted any mistakes. And then, while writing a book about autism and masking, it hit me! Trying to remove all my spelling and grammar mistakes so I write like someone who masters spelling and grammar is akin to masking as an autistic person to seem neurotypical. So, I'll do my best to write coherently (as a dyslexic person I still get annoyed by sloppy writing) but if you come across a mistake, I hope you can read generously and smile, because you've just witnessed me unmasking my dyslexia and allowed this to happen in our shared space without stigmatising me for my neurodivergence. Thank you for that :-)
